How Reward Redemption Works
When a customer’s points balance reaches the threshold you set for a reward, the reward tile in the app becomes active and tappable. The customer taps Redeem, confirms the action, and their points are deducted. If the reward is linked to a coupon code, that code is surfaced immediately for use at your point of sale or online checkout.Redemption events appear in Analytics → Reward Redemptions so you can track which prizes drive the most engagement and plan your reward catalogue accordingly.
Creating a Reward
1
Open the Rewards catalogue
In your Pocketshop dashboard, navigate to Loyalty → Rewards and select New Reward.
2
Name and describe the reward
Write a short, appealing name (e.g. “Free Coffee”) and a description that sets expectations clearly (e.g. “One free hot drink of your choice, any size”). Good copy here directly affects redemption intent.
3
Set the points cost
Enter the number of points required to redeem the reward. Calibrate this against your earning ratio — a reward that takes six to eight average visits to reach keeps customers engaged without feeling unattainable.
4
Upload an image
Add a high-quality image of the reward. Visual rewards outperform text-only listings. Use a clean product shot or lifestyle image that reflects your brand.
5
Choose the reward type
Select whether the reward is a physical good, a voucher, an experience, or a coupon-code-linked offer. See the types section below for guidance on each.
6
Link a coupon code (optional)
If your POS needs a code to process the redemption, enter it in the Coupon Code field. The code will be revealed to the customer at the moment of redemption.
7
Set audience restrictions (optional)
Apply segment filters to control which customers can see and redeem this reward. Leave unrestricted to make it available to all users.
8
Publish
Toggle the reward to Active and save. It will appear immediately in the app for eligible customers.
Types of Rewards
Physical Goods
Tangible products you ship or hand over in-store — branded merchandise, product samples, or a free item from your range. Use segment targeting to limit availability to specific customer groups when supply is finite.
Vouchers
Monetary or percentage-off vouchers redeemable against a future purchase. Pair with a coupon code so your POS can validate the discount automatically. Ideal for driving the next transaction immediately after a redemption.
Experiences
Events, workshops, early access, or VIP invitations. These high-perceived-value rewards build emotional connection beyond transactional loyalty. Restrict to a specific customer segment to maintain exclusivity.
Coupon-Code Rewards
Rewards that reveal a specific POS or online coupon code at redemption. The code is hidden until the customer completes the redemption flow, creating a clean handoff to your checkout system without any manual staff intervention.
POS Integration via Coupon Codes
Linking a reward to a coupon code creates a seamless redemption loop between the app and your point of sale. Here is how the flow works:- The customer taps Redeem in the app.
- Pocketshop deducts the points, marks the reward as redeemed, and reveals the coupon code.
- The customer presents the code to your staff or enters it at online checkout.
- Your POS applies the corresponding discount or fulfils the item.
