# Create and Manage Digital Coupons in Pocketshop CRM

> Build targeted digital coupons with scratch-to-reveal, segment filtering, and POS integration to drive conversions and reward loyal customers.

Coupons are standalone promotional offers you surface directly inside the app. Unlike rewards that require accumulated points, coupons can be pushed to any customer segment at any time — instantly and without a points balance requirement. Use them to announce flash sales, surprise loyal customers, or run seasonal promotions. Each coupon can carry an optional points bonus on redemption, making it easy to blend immediate discounts with long-term loyalty mechanics.

## Coupon Configuration Fields

Every coupon you create is defined by the fields below. Access the coupon builder under **Loyalty → Coupons → New Coupon** in your dashboard.

| Field                                           | Description                                                                                                                                                 | Example                                          |
| ----------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------ |
| **Coupon Code** | The actual redemption code entered at POS or checkout. This is what your staff or online system validates. | `BF2024`, `5EUR-LOYAL` |
| **Slug** | A short teaser label shown to customers before they reveal or redeem. Maximum 5 characters. | `-10%`, `1+1`, `Frei` |
| **Points on redemption** (*Punkte*) | Optional points bonus the customer receives when they redeem this coupon. | 25 points |
| **User-redeemable** (*Von Nutzer:in einlösbar*) | When enabled, the customer can redeem the coupon themselves inside the app. When disabled, the coupon is informational only and must be processed by staff. | Yes / No |
| **Scratch to reveal** (*Zum Aufrubbeln*) | Hides the coupon value behind a scratch animation. The customer rubs the screen to uncover their offer. | ✓ |
| **Redemption warning** (*Einlöse-Warnung*) | Warning text shown to the customer at the moment of redemption — e.g. a reminder that the offer cannot be combined with other promotions. | "Cannot be combined with sale items." |
| **Redemption hint** (*Einlöse-Hinweis*) | Supporting text shown on the coupon detail screen to guide the customer — e.g. instructions for how to present the coupon in-store. | "Show this screen to a team member at the till." |

## Audience Targeting

Every coupon supports the full range of Pocketshop's segment filters. Restrict visibility so only the right customers see each offer.

Common targeting configurations:

* **VIP customers** — Reward your highest spenders with exclusive offers they can't get elsewhere.
* **New customers** — Show a welcome coupon to anyone who registered in the last 30 days to accelerate their first purchase.
* **Lapsed customers** — Target customers who haven't visited in 60 or more days with a win-back discount.
* **Employees** — Create an internal staff discount coupon visible only to accounts flagged with the employee tag.
* **Birthday month** — Surface a birthday coupon automatically during the customer's birthday month.

Apply segment filters in the **Audience** section of the coupon builder. You can stack multiple filters using AND/OR logic, and preview the estimated audience size before publishing.

<Note>
  Coupons are independent of the points system by default. If you also want to reward the redemption act itself, enable **Points on redemption** to layer in a loyalty incentive on top of the discount.
</Note>

## Coupon Types

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="Informational Coupon">
    An informational coupon communicates an offer without requiring any in-app action from the customer. The discount code is visible immediately — there is no redemption button. Use this type for campaigns where your POS already knows the discount code and applies it automatically, or where you simply want to announce a storewide promotion.

    **Steps to create an informational coupon:**

    <Steps>
      <Step title="Create a new coupon">
        Go to **Loyalty → Coupons** and select **New Coupon**.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Set the coupon code and slug">
        Enter the redemption code your POS recognises (e.g. `BF10`) and a short slug customers will see in the list view (e.g. `-10%`).
      </Step>

      <Step title="Disable user redemption">
        Set **User-redeemable** to **No**. The coupon will display the code but show no redemption button.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Add a hint">
        Use the **Redemption hint** field to tell customers what to do — for example, "Mention this code at checkout to receive 10% off your entire order."
      </Step>

      <Step title="Set your audience and publish">
        Apply any segment filters, set the active date range, and publish.
      </Step>
    </Steps>
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Redeemable Coupon">
    A redeemable coupon places a **Redeem** button in the app. When the customer taps it, the coupon transitions to a redeemed state, preventing double use. Use this type for personalised vouchers, loyalty bonuses, or any offer you want to track precisely.

    **Steps to create a redeemable coupon:**

    <Steps>
      <Step title="Create a new coupon">
        Go to **Loyalty → Coupons** and select **New Coupon**.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Set the coupon code and slug">
        Enter the staff-facing redemption code (e.g. `5EUR-LOYAL`) and a clear slug (e.g. `5 €`).
      </Step>

      <Step title="Enable user redemption">
        Set **User-redeemable** to **Yes**. The customer will see a **Redeem** button on the coupon detail screen.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Add a redemption warning">
        Use the **Redemption warning** field to confirm the action — for example, "Once redeemed, this voucher cannot be used again. Only redeem at the till."
      </Step>

      <Step title="Add points on redemption (optional)">
        If you want to reward the redemption act with bonus points, enter a value in the **Points** field.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Set your audience and publish">
        Apply segment filters, configure the validity window, and publish.
      </Step>
    </Steps>
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Scratch & Reveal">
    A scratch-to-reveal coupon hides the offer behind an interactive scratch animation. Customers swipe their finger across the screen to uncover their prize. This adds a moment of delight and anticipation that purely informational coupons cannot replicate — ideal for seasonal campaigns, prize draws, or surprise-and-delight moments.

    **Steps to create a scratch-to-reveal coupon:**

    <Steps>
      <Step title="Create a new coupon">
        Go to **Loyalty → Coupons** and select **New Coupon**.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Set the coupon code and slug">
        Enter the code that will be revealed after scratching (e.g. `LUCK25`) and a teaser slug customers see before scratching (e.g. `?`).
      </Step>

      <Step title="Enable scratch to reveal">
        Toggle **Scratch to reveal** on. The coupon value will now be hidden behind the scratch layer.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Enable or disable user redemption">
        Decide whether the revealed code is self-redeemable in the app or for POS use only, and set **User-redeemable** accordingly.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Add a hint">
        Use the **Redemption hint** to build anticipation — for example, "Scratch to reveal your personal lucky discount!"
      </Step>

      <Step title="Set your audience and publish">
        Apply segment filters, set an expiry date to create urgency, and publish.
      </Step>
    </Steps>

    <Tip>
      Scratch-to-reveal coupons drive significantly higher open rates than standard coupons. Pair them with a push notification that reads "You have a surprise waiting — scratch to reveal your offer!" for maximum impact.
    </Tip>
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

## Best Practices

* **Keep slugs instantly scannable.** Five characters is your limit — use it to communicate the core value at a glance (`-20%`, `Frei`, `2+1`). Customers scroll quickly.
* **Always add a redemption warning for self-redeemable coupons.** This prevents accidental double-taps and reduces support requests from customers who redeemed too early.
* **Use expiry dates to create urgency.** A coupon with no end date loses its motivational power. Even a 14-day window increases redemption rates.
* **Test segment logic before publishing.** Use the audience preview to confirm that your filters produce the intended customer group. A VIP coupon accidentally visible to all customers loses its exclusivity.
* **Stagger your campaigns.** Avoid sending multiple coupons in a short window. Customers who receive too many offers at once become desensitised, and your redemption rate will fall.
